Community Guidelines
Last updated September 30, 2026
Time and a Half exists so people in the trades can find out what a company or a job is actually like, laugh at the stuff only your crew gets, and find real work, all backed by people who have actually done the work.
That only works if what is posted here is honest, specific, and grounded in real experience. These guidelines exist to protect that, and to protect you.
1. Independent, and neutral on unions
- Time and a Half is independently owned and operated. It is not run by, sponsored by, or endorsed by any employer, contractor, union, local, hiring hall, or other labor organization.
- Companies can claim their page and post jobs. They can never edit or remove what workers write, and they never learn who wrote it.
- Hall and local pages are independent listings. A page for a local says where it is, what it dispatches, and how to reach it, so members can find it. It is not the local's own page, and nothing on it speaks for the local.
- We do not represent anyone. Time and a Half is not a union, not a bargaining representative, and does not negotiate with anyone on anybody's behalf. It is a place for workers to share information with each other.
- Union and open-shop workers are equally welcome. So are views for and against organizing. Moderation applies the same rules whichever side a post is on, and whether someone is union or not never affects how their posts are ranked, moderated, or shown.
- Don't use a union's or a company's name, logo, or branding to suggest it sponsors or approves something here. Naming them factually ("worked a job dispatched out of Local 20") is fine.
2. Shift Change: sharing company experiences
- Post your own experience, in your own words. "I worked the Tulsa site for two years and here's what happened to me" is what this section is for.
- Don't post secondhand claims, rumors, or "someone told me" stories as if they were your own experience.
- Don't post confidential company documents, internal financials, client lists, or anything you would need to break a confidentiality agreement to share.
- Shift Change posts carry no identity anywhere, including on your own card. Anyone else viewing your card sees only a count of your posts, never which posts or what they said. Notifications about replies never name who replied.
- Coordinated reviews are a violation in either direction, glowing or damning. A genuine post from a genuine worker is welcome however it reads. A fabricated one is a violation whoever arranged it.
- A review from an account that has not yet been vouched for by 2 real coworkers does not count toward a company's public summary until it reaches that bar. The post is still recorded; it just does not move the numbers yet.
3. Ask the crew on a jobsite
- Any member can ask a question about a specific job. A moderator reads every question before it appears.
- Only people vouched on that job can answer, and answers never show a name, only that the person was vouched on the job and the year.
- Don't ask or answer about a named individual, and don't write anything that would identify who answered. Reviews of a company belong on its Shift Change page.
4. Laydown Yard, Hall Talk and Crew Talk
- Humor that punches at the work, the grind, or your trade is exactly what Laydown Yard is for. Content that targets a real, identifiable person for ridicule is harassment and is treated as harassment.
- No content that promotes discrimination, harassment, or hatred based on race, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
- You post under a handle, not your real name, so you can talk shop more freely. Handles are unique across the site, ignoring capitals.
- A handle is pseudonymous, not anonymous. It is tied to your one verified account behind the scenes, so muting and moderation still work, and a new handle does not get around a suspension.
- Your handle is kept apart from your card. Anyone else viewing your card sees only a count of your Laydown Yard posts, never the posts or the handle.
- Hall Talk is for a hall's members, and a hall's member list is visible only to its members. Anyone can see that a hall is listed here and roughly how many members it has, never who they are.
5. Vouching
- Vouch only for people you actually worked with. A vouch is a factual claim ("yes, I worked alongside this person, around then"), not a character reference.
- A vouch requires your own work history at the same company and site, overlapping theirs.
- Don't trade vouches for money, favors, or vouches back. Vouch rings, groups of accounts vouching for each other without real shared work, are investigated and may lead to suspension of every account involved.
- A vouch confirms a specific claim, not a person in general. Keeping an ongoing job open, or closing it with an honest end date, never affects your vouches. Changing the role, company, or site of an entry, or moving its start date earlier, removes the vouches on it, because they confirmed something different.
6. Verification
- Your identity is verified by phone number when you sign up, only to confirm you are a real, distinct person. Your number is never shown to other members, never searchable, and never used for anything else. See the Privacy Policy for how it is stored.
- Phone verification raises the bar against fraud; it does not make fraud impossible. That is why reviews do not count until real coworkers vouch for the account. The two layers are independent on purpose.
- An email address is optional, and is used only to get you back into your account if your phone number stops being yours.
- We do not ask for pay stubs, W-2s, or similar documents.
7. The Board
The Board carries separate kinds of listing, and they are never presented as the same thing.
- Worker leads are one worker telling others that their own jobsite is taking on hands. A lead is a tip, not an offer, and nobody posting a lead can hire you. Leads are posted under your real name, with how long you have worked the site and how many coworkers have vouched for you there. You can post about any site on your own card.
- Time & a Half Sourced jobs are postings we found and checked. We do not hire for them; you apply on the employer's own posting.
- Employer listings will come only from verified companies, clearly labelled. Paid placement may change where a listing appears. It never changes a company's rating, its reviews, or anyone's standing.
- Leads and listings expire on their own.
8. Muting
- Mute hides a person's Laydown Yard posts from your own feed. It is silent (they are never told) and changes nothing else.
- Muting does not replace reporting. Harassment, threats, and doxxing should be reported.
9. What isn't allowed anywhere
- Threats, harassment, or targeted abuse of any individual
- Doxxing: posting someone's home address, personal phone number, or other private identifying information without consent
- Impersonating a real person, company, union, or supervisor
- Anything that asks a worker to pay to apply, or for banking details or a Social Security number. A real job never does. It is treated as fraud and removed, whoever posted it.
- Spam, scams, or solicitation unrelated to real work
- Content that facilitates illegal activity
- Multiple accounts made to evade a suspension or manipulate reviews, vouches, or answers
- Scraping or bulk-collecting what is on here, by script or by hand. Read anything you like; taking the directory is a different act. See the Terms, Sections 6 to 9.
10. Enforcement
Violations may lead to content removal, a warning, a temporary suspension, or permanent removal, depending on severity and history. Coordinated abuse (pile-ons, vouch rings, fake accounts) is treated at maximum severity.
